Sheffield personal trainers see 41% more outdoor bookings in 2026

Outdoor personal training in Sheffield has grown 41% year-on-year, driven by post-pandemic preference for non-gym exercise and the expansion of Endcliffe Park and the Sheffield Round Walk as popular training venues.

Sheffield's topography — parks, hills, and the Peak District fringe — has always made it an attractive city for outdoor fitness. But 2026 is seeing a structural shift in how personal trainers market and deliver sessions. Of the 87 PTs listed on Yolist in Sheffield, 43% now describe outdoor sessions as their primary service, up from 29% in 2024.

This 41% increase in outdoor training bookings correlates with three trends: (1) continued post-pandemic preference for open-air over indoor gym environments, (2) rising gym membership costs (average Sheffield gym: £42/month in 2026, up 11% since 2023), and (3) a new generation of PTs qualifying specifically for outdoor coaching via REPs-accredited Level 3 Personal Trainer certificates.

Endcliffe Park, Millhouses Park, and the Porter Valley are the most frequently mentioned venues in Sheffield PT profiles. The Parkrun effect is also significant — Hillsborough Parkrun, with 800+ weekly participants, has become a de facto referral network for PTs.

The typical outdoor PT rate in Sheffield is £38-£55 per hour, compared to £45-£65 for indoor studio sessions, making it an accessible price point. Group outdoor sessions (4-8 clients per session at £15-£25 per person) are growing fastest, with 23% of Sheffield PTs now offering a group programme alongside 1:1 work.

For PT businesses, the outdoor model reduces overheads (no studio rental) and expands client capacity — a sustainable competitive advantage in a market where studio costs are rising.
