UK Business Data Sources
Yolist research is built on open government data, community datasets, and signals from our own platform. Below is the full list of sources we use, with record counts, update frequencies, and links to the originals.
All data sources
Companies House
The official UK register of companies. Provides registration number, SIC codes, incorporation date, registered address, officer names, and filing history for all UK companies.
Food Standards Agency (FSA)
Hygiene inspection ratings for all food businesses in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Covers restaurants, takeaways, cafés, school canteens, supermarkets, and food manufacturers.
ONS Postcode Directory (ONSPD)
Every current and terminated UK postcode with grid reference, local authority, parliamentary constituency, Census Output Area, and urban/rural classification.
OpenStreetMap (OSM)
Points of interest, building footprints, amenity tags, and road network data. Used for landmark proximity calculations and category enrichment for businesses not in Companies House.
Ordnance Survey Open Data
OS Open Roads, Code-Point Open (postcode centroids), and Open Names datasets used for address validation, routing, and geographic boundary mapping.
Wikipedia / Wikidata
Structured data for UK landmarks, towns, notable institutions, and business categories. Used to enrich landmark near-me pages and to validate category labels.
Request access to raw data
Researchers, journalists, and academic institutions can request bespoke data cuts from the Yolist platform. We evaluate requests on a case-by-case basis and may share anonymised datasets under a data-sharing agreement.
